Introduction
A party can be a great time for everyone involved. It's an opportunity to spend time with friends and meet new people. But, a party or event that started as a blast can end badly for everyone involved if you are not prepared to deal with issues related to guests’ alcohol consumption, violent behavior or other critical incidents.
If a critical incident (injury, property damage, or any type of illegal activity) occurs at your event, you could face civil and criminal charges or the loss of campus recognition for your student organization.
A recent Missouri college party was host to some critical incidents. After an off campus fraternity party, 16 people were charged with underage possession and one individual was taken to a hospital due to alcohol poisoning. The fraternity that planned the party now has been suspended by its national office. The students who planned this event only wanted to have fun with friends, but because underage and binge drinking took place at their party, they and their organization are now facing severe consequences.

The Student Alcohol Responsibility Training (START) program will assist you in planning and hosting a successful, fun, and safe event of any kind. The goal of this training is to increase the skills and knowledge of Missouri college students regarding how they can host a fun, safe event, no matter what campus they attend or the type of event they host. START has been paid for by a federal grant provided through the Division of Alcohol and Drug Abuse.
The START Training Program is split into two halves. The first half describes how to plan a safe party and prevent critical incidents. The second half includes information and tips on how to detect problematic situations related to alcohol use and intervene in a safe and appropriate way. After you take time to read through both sections, you will be given the opportunity to take the final quiz. This consists of ten multiple choice questions and you must pass this quiz with at least a 90% score. You will be given the opportunity to retake the quiz as many times as you may need. Once you pass the quiz, please print out 2 copies of your certification for verification.
The more time you spend reading and interacting with the material in the sections, the better prepared you will be for the final quiz.
Let's get started.
