Decide Who Will Help You With the Event

Now that you have considered questions about your event and the safety of your guests, you are ready to develop your own party plan. Your first step should be to get as much help as you need. This section will help you decide who to ask for help, and what their responsibilities should be.
For parties and events, choose carefully the individuals who will assist you with duties related to the event.
These duties might include:
- Cleaning the location before the event
- Decorating the location
- Food preparation/ordering
- Checking IDs if you choose to serve alcohol
- Watching for intoxicated guests
- Helping with crowd control or security
- Cleaning up after the event.
You should be familiar with the people who will be helping you. They should be trustworthy and have the right personality for the duties assigned to them.
Example:
What duties would be best for these friends? Considering the traits we’ve just discussed, match the friend (1, 2, or 3) with the most appropriate responsibility (A, B, or C).
1. Joe is 6'4" and 300 pounds. You can always count on him to help out with anything you ask and Joe does not like to drink much. He has a very even temper and people listen to him when he talks.
2. Devin is organized and likes to make lists. She is always willing to help out with tasks.
3. Sara cannot make it to your party but is happy to help out. She will be with friends that evening at an alcohol-free event on campus.
A. Clean up
B. Security
C. Door
For each of the persons you have selected, ask them to participate in this training as well. All those responsible for the event should know the laws and policies related to alcohol and violent behavior. Also, they should have important recognition and intervention skills.
Make sure the individuals helping you keep their cell phones on with a loud ringer and on vibrate. Develop a clean-up plan and delegate these responsibilities. This is important to ensuring that your neighborhood is minimally affected by your event.
