Keeping a Log of Incidents at Your Event
During your event, it is important to keep a record of things that happen that could lead to legal problems for you later. Examples of things you should log could include:
- Intoxicated individuals attempting to enter
- Underage individuals attempting to enter and/or receive alcohol
- Fights or other violent activity
- Intoxicated individuals attempting to leave and how you dealt with the situation
- Property damage
- Other critical incidents or emergencies
Think you do not have enough time to keep a log? Other ways to document include taking a picture with your cell phone or digital camera, sending yourself or others a text message with a brief description, or telling a responsible friend, who has not been drinking, about the incident.
Here’s an example log you can use at your event. Be sure to take down all relevant information, including date, time, parties involved, witnesses and all other important details.
One other item you should maintain, along with your log, is an emergency contact list.
