Intoxicated Individuals at the Door

You must know the common signs and symptoms of an intoxicated person in order to recognize one. There are many potential signs and symptoms. Here are a few of them:

  1. Loud speech
  2. Overly animated or entertaining
  3. Drinking alone or too fast
  4. Foul language
  5. Slurred speech
  6. Inability to stand or walk
  7. Throwing up

The key to identifying intoxication is to notice when more than one of these behaviors occur at the same time.

You should also be aware of any event in your area that could lead to increased drinking. Local events, such as football games, may affect the intoxication level of guests.

If a guest attempting to enter your party appears intoxicated, you or your staff needs to let them know that they cannot enter your event.

You may think that you could never intervene in a situation like this. But, you can learn techniques to help you intervene and prevent harm to your friends and guests. Learn how you can effectively intervene at STEP UP!
